Oh, Kit - those rocket stands and that cradle are too much!

In my workshop, my rocket cradle is my lap. My rocket stands are long dowels that are stuck into the trash can.

Here are some pages I put up a few years ago showing my shop. Not a lot of rocket-specific tools, but I've used most of them at one time or another on a rocket project.

Use the PILE method; a PILE for everything and everything in it's PILE !
Shop organization is a waste of time doing something other than building.
the next thing ya know somebody will say they vacuum/clean their shop more than once a YEAR, which is a WASTE !

, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

I clean my shop when it gets too messy to function at a minimal level. Then I start thinking about cleaning for a month or so before doing it. Good 'Nuff !

Since I cut a lot of wood, I have to sweep and vacuum regularly, or it will get tracked into the house as well as be uber messy in the garage.

As far as cleaning it up in the sense of organizing and stowing, my garage gets cluttered enough that I get pi$$ed off stepping over and tripping over things. So I will stop in the middle of a project and spend a couple hours clearing the walkways and re-arranging the shelves. This does double duty as both anger management and safety precaution

But I find it hard not to have piles. I can never find a place for everything I have. Not sure if that's a space issue or an organization issue (or OCD), but even after I've cleaned, I have a few piles. Of course, they're neatly stacked after cleaning, but I still have piles

Default shop

I tried to upload a photo ,but it nearly took the internet down due to the contained chaous

Anyway if i were ina situation like you starting fresh , I would say buy lots of clear totes , buy them all at once so they all match and stck well. Ihave no less than a hundred totes , and I swear all from different makers .
They will keep things nice and unscrunched

If you ever have (or anticipate) problems with "spousal approval" of your use of the shop, a "stealth workshop" (not terribly unlike the "stealth stations" that apartment-dwelling ham radio operators use) is always an option. I use one because what my landlady doesn't know about my hobby activities won't trouble her (I don't think it would, but why ask a police officer "Am I driving legally?").

My "stealth workshop" uses either a 15" X 24" section of the kitchenette counter top for building small rockets (if I don't move the table radio to open up another 10" or so of space on the short side) *or* a ~2.25' X ~7' wood closet door (retrieved from a house that was being demolished) laid across the counter top to serve as a large table for building large rockets (and tissue paper model hot-air balloons). Tools, glues, and finishing supplies are stored in the cabinets below the kitchenette counter top, and the closet door table top is stashed in the walk-in closet when not needed. Draping sheet plastic "drop cloths" over the counter top and using old telephone books as cutting surfaces keep the counter top and the door in pristine condition. When everything is put away, no one would know that model rockets and model hot-air balloons are built there.
