Hello John,

Here is a list of US and foreign sounding rockets and missiles that could be depicted accurately using existing Estes nose cones. Also, they have never been kitted before by Estes (or by anyone else, in nearly all cases). Unless otherwise indicated, complete plans for all of them can be found in the booklet "Scale Bash" by Peter Alway, which may still be available from NARTS (see: https://blastzone.com/nar/narts/ -- if not, I have a copy). They are:

Models using 3:1 ogive nose cones from the Estes Generic E2X (BT-50 size) and Bailout (BT-60 size):

Pencil (Japan)
S-520 (Japan)
Doorknob (USA)
Aries (USA)
Wasserfall (Germany)

Models using 4:1 ogive nose cones from the Estes Gnome (BT-5 size), Wizard (BT-20 size), and Commanche-3 (BT-50 size):

Viper (USA)
Javelin III (USA)
Hydac (USA)
Lance (USA--scale data is in "Fourteen US Army Missiles of the Cold War" by Peter Alway and Chris Timm [NARTS has it])

Models using 5:1 ogive nose cone from the Estes Magnum (BT-60 size):

Astrobee D (USA)
S-310 (Japan)

Models using 11 degree conical nose cones from the Estes Wildfire (BT-50 size) and Black Brant II (BT-55 size):

Sirocco (USA)
Hawk Motor Test Vehicle (USA)
Sonda II (Brazil)
Orion (USA)
Skylark (United Kingdom -- scale data is in "Rockets of the World" by Peter Alway [NARTS has it])

I hope this information will be helpful.

I believe you should start to see new models coming out sometime first quarter next year. It takes time to develop models so what doesn't come out next year will come in years to follow. There are lots more models planed for next year then were shown at the iHobby show.

Thanks for that list Blackshire. It will be useful for anybody looking to enter the B Scale Altitude at NARAM 53 next year.

You're welcome. Peter Alway PeteAlway@aol.com may have more copies of "Scale Bash" available.

Also, ARA Press is working on re-printing "Scale Bash," and they carry all of Peter Alway's yearly supplement booklets to "Rockets of the World," as well as the "parent book" itself (see: http://www.arapress.com/space_products.php#SaturnPress ). The supplements include scale data on the Nike-Orion and Taurus-Orion, among many other American and foreign sounding rockets.

Do you imagine that ARA might consider publishing ROTW in three hole punched format with a supplied binder? It might make sense also to see the supplements in the same format as opposed to the velobind spine.

A couple of clarifications of more current models:

The 3:1 Ogive from the BT-60 Bailout is also the Stormcaster nose cone.

The 4:1 Ogive from the BT-5 Gnome can also be found in the cheaper Quark.

The 11 degree conical from the BT-50 Wildfire can also be found in the Skywriter No. 2 (the pencil).

A cheaper source of the 4:1 Ogive from the BT-50 Commanche 3 is the Nova Payloader.

A great idea! If they got enough requests, maybe they would do this.
