Default Iranian Missile/Rocket

Anyone care to take a crack at simming this very interesting-looking Iranian missile/rocket?

Iranian Missile

I may try it, but if anyone else has a need to use RockSim, go for it! I love the paint scheme and the very interesting forward fins on this missile/rocket. I can only imagine how much noseweight's going to be needed with those huge fins. Hmmm......

Wonder what the rocket exhaust would do to that beard??

What's up with the nose? Is that crooked looking piece actually part of the nose? Or is it just the angle of the pic?

I think the thing on the nose is a nosecone protector. Doesn't look like a pointy-type nose. I also think the multiple transitions would be interesting to do...

Hmmm. I could possibly use a HoJo nose cone to fabricate the center portion. Hmmm.

How about we do a scale flight of a Tomahawk or a JDAM blowing it up after you finish it?

.......AND, if I replicate it as a scale model, that means I get to name it.

Hence, I'll pretend it's a Tube launched, Optically tracked, Wire guided missile used in the desert,

therefore I'll call it the......

I think it is the Qassed III Smart Bomb. Seeker head cover in place. Or it might be...

Ok, it looks an awful lot like the Google Images pictures of the Qassed 3 the I found, so you're probably right.

Here is my first attempt. Not sure how to make the reverse boattail on the rear. I had to lengthen the transitions to make it look correct. I guess we can get (or make) drilled transitions. Not sure how much weight to take off for drilling them though.

With 1 oz of noseweight it has surprisingly good numbers but it does need a 48" rod for a C-11 (although I wouldn't recommend that engine).

It looks like some variant of the GBU-15, however it is painted. This weapon design is basically some 30+ years old.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_B2vUAxBow

The Iranians are good at dragging out some old piece of obscure ordnance, painting it in their national colors, parading it on the back of a flatbed truck and calling it their "new super weapon."

I have seen them do this with Hawk missiles, with Exocets, and lots of other stuff. A few months back they even dug out some 50-year-old plans for the Alexander Lippisch wing-in-ground-effect flying boat and built a squadron. They presented this junk to the world as their new "stealth" fighters (the WIGE configuration has absolutely nothing to do with stealth). I suppose that 99.99% of the people in Iran are too stupid to know these things are laughably bad representations of advanced technology, but to anyone who works around military gear these things were so dumb they don't even make for a bad joke.

Sorry guys, I don't think there is any missile or rocket here---
